TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits

Ants can be a problem anywhere – in the home, at work and everywhere in between. To kill common household ants, place TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits in areas where they attract foraging ants that take the bait back to the nest. As the bait circulates through the colony, it kills the ants you see and the ones you don’t. The new and improved snap-off tab makes the stations easy to use. Plus, the closed bait stations prevent the bait from drying out to provide the ants with a continuous supply of liquid, day and night. Note: complete control may take up to two weeks.

Liquid Ant baits
How it works
How Liquid Ant Bait Works Since this is a bait, initially you will see more ants – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. Why? As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet, sugary liquid inside the bait stations. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants in the beginning.

Meanwhile, the active ingredient, Borax, is slowly interfering with the ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing it, but leaving enough time for the ant to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that foraging ants can make several trips to the bait. The communal nature of an ant colony allows the bait to be spread to hundreds, if not thousands, of individual ants.

Where to Place Ant Baits

Place TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits near trails and other locations where ants are numerous. It’s also a good idea to place bait stations anywhere ants may try to enter your home. The compact size of the bait stations makes them perfect for placement along baseboards, in corners, on counters, under and behind appliances, and on windowsills. The more bait placements, the better!

Where to place Ant Bait
Easy open tab
Easy-Open Tab Each TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait station is sealed so the bait stays fresh until you’re ready to use them. To open the bait, hold the station vertically and twist the new and improved tab. This opens up the station and allows ants to access the bait. Place the entire station on a flat surface, keeping the ant bait inside the station.

Note: Some earlier versions of TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait required it to be opened by scissors. The new snap-off tab eliminates this method of opening, but some earlier versions may still be sold while supplies last.

How to Use Liquid Ant Baits

TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits are very easy to use. Before placing the bait stations, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting ants elsewhere. Do not place bait where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the bait stations.

  1. Hold the bait station firmly with bait pack tab facing up. Break off the tab being careful not to spill the bait.
  2. Place the bait station label side up on a flat surface near signs of ants. Place additional bait stations anywhere they may enter your home. For best results, use all six bait stations to ensure a sufficient supply for the ants.
  3. Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait stations. Replace when bait is depleted. Complete control may take up to two weeks.
  4. Once ants are controlled, replace the baits every 3 months to keep them from returning.

Dont like the new design By Emi

I have been using this product for years and love it, but the new design is horrible!! The liquid easily leaks out if the surface is not level, and the opening is not like old design that ants can go in very easy, please change the design back

It Works! By Susan

I seriously have never had a product work as well as these ant baits! We seem to get ants in almost every room of the house when the weather gets warm and we just put out some of these baits wherever we see them. In a few days THEY ARE GONE!!! Even with the hot weather we are experiencing in New England right now, we have not seen ONE ant! Even the carpenter ants are gone! I just don't know what to say except THANK YOU for making a product that WORKS! I will never use anything else!!!

Old design is better By AntsInMyPants

I love this product and have been amazed by the effectiveness, even recommend it to friends. However, I am very disappointed with the new design. I still cut the tab off as snapping is difficult and spills bait. The old entrance did lie flat and was so wide that lots of ants could enter, and did - tons of them. Now the fluid spills on my carpet and tile every time which is difficult to clean as it dries and hardens. Don't really want it embedded in carpet anyway. And the small, round, ragged entrance hole doesn't allow enough to enter. It lessens the amount of attractive/noticeable area to the ants in my opinion. I honestly don't understand the thinking here. Please change it back.

Works great! By mirelesfam

These ant traps work great! I had ants coming in through an electric outlet. I placed a trap nearby and for about 24 hours the ants swarmed it, then completely disappeared and never returned. This year ants appeared in a kitchen cupboard, coming from outside. I've placed a trap down and they've swarmed again and now I see the amount decreasing. If you have an ant problem give these a try!

Go back to the old style of dispenser By Jim

Terro aunt bait is the best. But I could have written the comments myself about the new product with the twist off end. It’s terrible, how many 10,s of thousands of dollars did you spend engineering and Retooling this dumb idea!!!! Go back to the original style, send your smart engineer home. Sure take it back for a 100% full moneyback guarantee doesn’t get rid of the ants. Engineers always want to reinvent the wheel, (old saying) if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. DUMB IDEA!!!!!!!! JA. Great product! By Heather

I just bought this product. I've never used the Terro brand before but it was recommended to me by friends. I have to say so far the ants are swarming to the bait traps! They don't seem to have a problem getting in. I also didn't have any trouble snapping off the tabs. I think this is a great product and I can't wait to get rid of these ants!

Ants drowning in traps By Tiff

I definitely see a reduction in the amount of ants around the house. Problem is, the ants aren't leaving the trap to take "food" back to the colony. Instead they're drowning in the traps. So I am replacing the traps once a week because they're so full of ants. I'm following the instructions properly, so I'm not really sure what the issue is.

Great results in a short period of time. By RGM

I’m thoroughly impressed with your product. The ants that invaded our bathroom were gone within 24 hours. I saw an immediate attraction to the bait and the number of ants feeding increased in a few hours. Now that the ants are gone, I’m wondering if it’s too good to be true. I will be recommending this product to anyone who has a an ant problem. Thank you!!!

Ants in bathroom By Kaye

I've never used before but the new design that every one is complaining about works great for us twisted the top off and bam within an hour hundreds of ants flying to work..I really hope they disappear quickly I have 3 big dogs and ive had to keep them away from the back of my house so they don't get into the traps my master bathroom is a constant battle and got that cleared up now my bedroom coming from under the carpet ugh so frustrating can not see where they're coming from unless I lift up carpet not going thru all that so I'm happy this is working for now.

Q.Why did you change the containers to this stupid "snap off" opening. I don't care how much you twist bend or curse, It does NOT snap off, and if you cut it where it is supposed to snap off the opening is far above (from an ant's perspective) the floor. If you persist in trying to snap it, you must squeeze the container so hard that you just end up with a hand full of sticky poison goo. Go back to the old way. The new one sucks big time. Otherwise, a greatly effective product.

Thank you for sharing this feedback! The time taken to provide these comments are appreciated. We have shared the information with our Product Managers.

Q.I placed two ant bait stations on the window sill where the ants first appeared. Within hours both bait stations were teeming with ants. Now, two days later, no more ants anywhere in my kitchen. Loving this! My question: the bait stations are both filled up with dead ants. IS this normal? Should I replace the bait stations? Thank you.

We are glad the product worked so well for you! While most of the ants will take the bait back to the colony, some ants may die in the bait stations. If there are no more ants, we recommend disposing of the bait stations and replacing them with new ones (as needed).

Q.Does Terro ant baits kill flying carpenter ants?

While this product will be effective for Carpenter ants if they ingest it, we do not recommend it as they are typically looking for a protein based food source. Carpenter ants are generally not attracted to sweet products.
