TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits

Ants can be a problem anywhere – in the home, at work and everywhere in between. To kill common household ants, place TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits in areas where they attract foraging ants that take the bait back to the nest. As the bait circulates through the colony, it kills the ants you see and the ones you don’t. The new and improved snap-off tab makes the stations easy to use. Plus, the closed bait stations prevent the bait from drying out to provide the ants with a continuous supply of liquid, day and night. Note: complete control may take up to two weeks.

Liquid Ant baits

How it works
How Liquid Ant Bait Works Since this is a bait, initially you will see more ants – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. Why? As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet, sugary liquid inside the bait stations. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants in the beginning.

Meanwhile, the active ingredient, Borax, is slowly interfering with the ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing it, but leaving enough time for the ant to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that foraging ants can make several trips to the bait. The communal nature of an ant colony allows the bait to be spread to hundreds, if not thousands, of individual ants.

Where to Place Ant Baits

Place TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits near trails and other locations where ants are numerous. It’s also a good idea to place bait stations anywhere ants may try to enter your home. The compact size of the bait stations makes them perfect for placement along baseboards, in corners, on counters, under and behind appliances, and on windowsills. The more bait placements, the better!

Where to place Ant Bait

Easy open tab
Easy-Open Tab Each TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait station is sealed so the bait stays fresh until you’re ready to use them. To open the bait, hold the station vertically and twist the new and improved tab. This opens up the station and allows ants to access the bait. Place the entire station on a flat surface, keeping the ant bait inside the station.

Note: Some earlier versions of TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait required it to be opened by scissors. The new snap-off tab eliminates this method of opening, but some earlier versions may still be sold while supplies last.

How to Use Liquid Ant Baits

TERRO® Liquid Ant Baits are very easy to use. Before placing the bait stations, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting ants elsewhere. Do not place bait where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the bait stations.

  1. Hold the bait station firmly with bait pack tab facing up. Break off the tab being careful not to spill the bait.
  2. Place the bait station label side up on a flat surface near signs of ants. Place additional bait stations anywhere they may enter your home. For best results, use all six bait stations to ensure a sufficient supply for the ants.
  3. Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait stations. Replace when bait is depleted. Complete control may take up to two weeks.
  4. Once ants are controlled, replace the baits every 3 months to keep them from returning.

Old T300 scissor-cut Terro bait trap worked great - new tear-off does NOT WORK By LiliMac

I have used Terro T300 bait traps and they were by FAR better than any competitor that I had tried. Recently I ordered 9 boxes of 6 traps each and tried 1/2 a box next to the old previous design (the cut-off w/scissors version). The old version worked great - a "ton" of ants went in. The new version got 1 or 2 ants only if that after many days. I returned all of the unopened boxes and am not hugely disappointed and wondering how to proceed. You have ruined a previously EXCELLENT product and delivery system. Without an EFFECTIVE delivery system, your great product is rendered useless. Please return to a workable solution -- the old style worked great.

Do not purchase By Rex

I bought these because we had many ants coming into our house by our window. I read some reviews and they seemed like they worked but they did not for me. I followed the directions and nothing if anything it created a spot for the ants to hang out. Haven't seen one dead one and it's been 4 days... Do not waste your money.

Hello Rex,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! While it may seem like the baits are not effective because you see more ants around the stations, this is actually an indication that the baits are working. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. While this is happening, the bait is slowly killing them, but not before they can spread it to the rest of the colony. It can take up to two weeks to eliminate an entire colony of ants, depending on its size. For more information, give us a call at 800-800-1819 x 458.  We're happy to help!

48 hours to excellent results By A Ford

I used Wilson AntOut for 6 weeks and continued to have ant problems. I went back to the store and found this product. Within 48 hours I didn't have a single ant. 6 weeks with a product I though was the best and no results, 2 days with this product - Terro will always be my go to know!

It Works! By Susan

I cannot say enough about these ant bait traps! They just work like a charm! Wherever we have seen ants in our rental, we have put down one or two of the traps. As Terro has said, you will see a lot of ants at first going in and out of the traps to take the bait back to the colony where it will eventually be killed off. I had to get over that hurdle of seeing so many all at once (my creep and "ick" factor was off the charts! "bugs in my clean house!!!!") but I was patient and a day or two later, NO ants are seen now in my bathroom, my kitchen, and especially this one area near a window in the bedroom. Now that those ants are GONE we can seal up the gap in the window frame where they were coming in. I just can't thank TERRO enough for making such a GREAT product that really does work!!! I will be a returning customer for these every year!!! Bless you!

Great liquid ant bait for carpenter ants By Bill

We were invaded by carpenter ants about a week ago and thanks to Terro and their liquid ant baits they are now just about all gone. The only issue that we had is that the liquid spills out easily and is very sticky and hard to clean up.

New design terrible. Bait spills out. By Tommy

The old traps were great. Easy to use and the ants loved them. The new ones are not "easy to open" as indicated and the holes are up in the air. The ants crawl all over my counter but they don't go into the trap. Plus I have had several traps where the liquid runs out on the counter. I have no idea how this can happen as the traps are sitting there undisturbed, some for days, and then you look and there's a puddle of the liquid bait that somehow has spilled out of the trap.

Working better than other types I tried By Blade

I tried this ant bait out after trying to use a different one without any results. So far working good the ants cleaned out 3 of the bait stations in less than a day. Two days later just a few left in that area. Now working on different ant colony, I set out a bait for this one few hours ago their tearing it up. Hope performs as well on this colony of ants.

Excellent product By Russ

This is an excellent product, had ants in my kitchen early spring. I put one of these on my counter in the back corner where I seen the ants. Within a 24 hour period I did not see anymore ants. It's been a week now and no return. I highly recommend this and it's now my favorite.

Q&A
Q.My car may or may not have licked some that spilled on the floor. I saw her near it but I’m not sure if she actually licked it. Is it harmful to pets?
A.

The ingredients in this product are water, sugar and borax. We recommend sharing these ingredients and any safety concerns with your vet. Borax is a naturally occurring mineral found in many common household items such as hand soaps and detergents.

Q.My 8 year old Golden Retriever got into one of the ant traps while we were away from home. He didn’t swallow any of the plastic but infested some of the liquid. Does this pose any risk to his health?
A.

The ingredients in TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait are water, sugar and borax.  Borax is a naturally occurring mineral found in many common household items such as hand soaps and detergents.  We recommend sharing these ingredients and any safety concerns with your vet.

Q.When I cut the top off it was upside down. The liquid is on my hardwood floor; what will take it off
A.

TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait is made of water, sugar and borax. If this liquid spills onto a counter-top, table, or floor it can be cleaned using mild soap and water.  Spilled bait will harden over time.  If this occurs, try placing a warm, wet cloth on top of it for approximately 20 minutes, softening the bait to make it easier to remove.
