TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer

When you have a bug problem, you want to ensure your efforts are as simple and effective as possible. TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer uses borax to kill the ants you see, as well as the ants you don’t see. It works by allowing the forager ants to consume the product and survive long enough to carry the liquid back to the nest and deliver a dose to the rest of the colony. Complete control may take up to two weeks. For your convenience, the packaging conveniently comes apart to allow for easy placement.

Ant Killer

Eliminate Ants
How Does Liquid Ant Killer Work? Since this is a bait, initially you will see more ants – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet liquid. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants in the beginning.

Meanwhile, the active ingredient, borax, is slowly interfering with each ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing them, but leaving enough time for the ants to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that foraging ants can make several trips to the bait, allowing you to get rid of both the ants you see and the ants you don’t.

Where to Place Liquid Ant Killer

Place TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer near ant trails and other locations where they are numerous. Apply the baited cardboard tiles on the edges of sinks, tubs, windowsills, under food cabinets, along floors and baseboards and in corners. The more bait placements, the better! Be sure to leave the ant killer undisturbed while the ants are actively feeding on it.

Where to Place Bait

How to use
How to Use Liquid Ant Killer TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer is very easy to use. Before placing the ant killer, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting them elsewhere. Do not place where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the ant killer.
  1. Tear the "PLACE TERRO® HERE" cardboard tiles from the packaging along the perforated lines. Then, apply drops of the liquid ant killer directly from the bottle onto the smooth side of the tile. you may also substitute with small pieces of paper, cardboard or foil.
  2. Place the ant killer tiles on a flat surface near signs of target pests. Place additional tiles anywhere they may enter your home. Heavily infested areas may require additional placements.
  3. Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait. Add more liquid if it goes dry or simply add more tiles to ensure there's always a fresh supply for the ants. Depending on the size of the ant invasion, complete control may take up to two weeks.

Less effective and functional By Gf

Been using daily for years. Constantly fighting ants. Formula has changed. Runny and less effective now. Puddle runs like water and makes a mess. Less viscous, accidentally streams out when dispensing now. Takes weeks to work now. Less effective and functional. I’ll feed a hot spot for a month before they finally dissipate. Up to 2 weeks previously.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. The formula for our Liquid Ant bait has not changed in over 20 years. Based on this description, it sounds like a larger colony or multiple colonies of ants were being attracted to the bait. Please feel free to reach out to us at 1-844-837-7644 for assistance.

Works better than anything I've ever tried. By Pastor jimmy

I was extremely skeptical, with the high praises of this product. I felt that nothing could work as well as the reviews said and that these 5 stars were probably from employees, especially when a pest control friend told that it's nearly impossible to get rid sugar ants. But I tried it anyway and couldn't believe what I saw. Within an hour there was a line outside the trap, like a bunch of kids lined up at the Ice cream truck, with ants making a mad dash back and forth. I've never seen them move so fast. In less than 48 hours, and only one bait station our ant problem was gone. I think I'll give my pest control buddy a station.

Ants are aware of the bait being harmful By JT

The ants in my honey house have gotten smarter. They seem to block the opening of the bait trap with grass and debris of all sorts. I even dumped some bait on the floor, but they still added things to absorb the liquid. I have used your product for many years ....this is the first time I've encountered this behavior. I thought you would like to see my experience, this has happened a few times this year....

Thanks for sharing your experience! This is not uncommon, the ants are trying to disguise what they consider to be a foodsource from other nearby colonies. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-844-837-7644 for assistance or with any questions, we're happy to help!

Meh... By Will

After five days there are a lot of dead ants...and still a lot of live ones too. The product isn't as effective as other Terro products I've used in the past, seems to be diluted in strength.

Response From Terro®
Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Hi Will - Thank you for sharing this feedback. This product is the same formula as our other liquid ant bait solutions. Any ants that consume the bait will typically die within 24-48 hours, however, it can take a few days or weeks to eliminate the colony as a whole. Please reach out to us at 1-844-837-7644 with any questions.

Original worked great, no more By Elcie

I used this product regularly and always had great success within two days. My old bottle ran out so I bought a new one. In the past 5ge ants would swarm. It would all be eaten within hours, now the ants have no interest they are still around after two days. Now I have globules around that the ants just walk over they have no interest. Have they change the formulation? Or what is causing the difference? In the past I’ve tried other aunt bait or liquid and none of them worked. I have told so many people about this product in the past., But I no longer can do that I wish I knew what the difference was and why this new batch doesn’t work

Response From Terro®
Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Thank you for sharing this feedback. Rest assurred, our tried and true formula has not changed. However, what may have changes is the ant's food preference. Many ants prefer sweet based foods, but there are some ants that prefer more of a protein based diet, which is why you may find that they ignore the liquid bait. Please reach out to us at 1-844-837-7644 for more information on how to eliminate this type of ant.

LOVE TERRO!! By Kristen

I had ants crawling all on my countertop in the kitchen. I went and bought Raid Ant traps from Wal-mart and sat all 4 out in the line of ants they had formed expecting to see the ants go to them, they never did. They just used them as a stepping stool or something they had to walk over to keep their line formed. Then my mom told me about Terro so I ordered it offline line, got here very fast! Quickly run in places a couple drops on the tear offs and I was so amazed to see the ants run to these drops like it was candy! They went and told all their friends and in a matter of 30 mins it went from 50 ants to 100s of ants. The next day they was all gone!!

Terro Is the BEST!!! By D

I have used Terro for over 40 years. My grandfather used it! It is by far the best product I have ever tried. Ants love the stuff! A few minutes after placing the killer on a piece of cardboard, the ants are lined up all around it pushing for a place in line. The little puddle of Terro will have a solid ring of ants around it. Most of the time a couple of days and a couple of baitings will solve the problem. I highly recommend this product and go ot of my way to find and get it.

Effective after several days of refreshing squares and liquid bait. By DT

This product works. The process takes some effort and a few days depending on the size of the infestation. The application was outside my home at several areas the ants were entering the building. After using the supplied tear away cardboard squares, I cut out small squares from the flat section of a coated white paper plate. The smooth white flat surface of this material seemed to improve the ant feeding activity. The placement along the active ant trails is important. Daily replacement with new squares (keeping the squares small like the ones supplied) and liquid is necessary. Over a few days I noticed less and less ants. Also obserevd using just a a few seperate drops on each square seemed to provide enough space for many ants to have enough room to feed on the bait drops. The outside application was effective and greatly minimized the ants coming into my home. This extermination plan was based on not baiting inside to draw them in, but rather hit them outside where they were most active and at entry points to my home.

Works like a charm By Rose

Terro ant killer is the only thing that got rid of our ant problem. Ants were covering our table and sink area every morning. They even found ways to get into our sealed sugar bowl and container. We put Terro out and with in 2 days , no more ants

Q&A
Q.We have a small red ant about 16th of an inch that has been swarming to the Terro liquid bait for about two months now. We will often replenish the bait twice a day they consume it all. Terro has worked great with the large and medium size ants but we are on second bottle and are discouraged that we are not getting better results. Do we have the wrondg product for this species? One things for sure is that they really like the bait!!
A.

It can take up to 2 weeks to control an ant colony.  If ants are still present after this period, you may be dealing with multiple colonies.  Consider treating the outside of your home using products like TERRO® Perimeter Ant Bait PlusContact killers like TERRO® Outdoor Ant Killer Spray can also be used to treat window sills, door openings and other areas you suspect ants are entering the home.

Q.My dog got a small dot of Terro about a quarter of an inch wide. What do we do??
A.

The ingredients in TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait are water, sugar and borax.  Borax is a naturally occurring mineral found in many common household items such as hand soaps and detergents. We recommend sharing these ingredients and any safety concerns with your vet.

Q.Does Terro kill big black ants?
A.

This product will effectively eliminate ants that are attracted to sweet baits.

Ants have large heads with compound eyes, elbowed antennae, and powerful jaws. Ants are social insects that live in structured nest communities throughout the world. The species of ant determines whether they live underground, in mounds built at ground level, in wood structures or in plants or trees.

More About Ants

FAQs

Why are ants always invading my kitchen, bathroom and laundry areas?

Ants are attracted to food, water and shelter. Kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms provide at least two of these conditions, making it an ideal haven for ants to congregate.

What’s the difference between liquid and gel ant baits?

It’s a little known fact that adult worker ants cannot digest solid food (bait). Their anatomy is designed for transporting and digesting liquids only. Solid foods must be carried back to the colony for additional processing by the larvae stage. Liquid baits exploit this unique physiology by making it easy for ants to transport the liquid bait back to the rest of the colony, including the queen, larvae and other workers.

I just placed TERRO® Ant Killer in my kitchen and it’s attracting more ants, not killing them! What’s going on?

You have nothing to worry about! Initially, you will see more ants. As ant foragers look for food, they are attracted to the sweet liquid in the bait which they consume and carry back to feed to the rest of the colony. On the way back to the nest, the ants drop what it called a ‘trail pheromone’, letting the other ants know where the tasty food supply is. In turn, these ants follow the trail to the bait which explains why you initially see more ants.

The active ingredient in the bait interferes with the ants' digestive systems, eventually killing the ants within 24-48 hours after consumption. This slow kill gives the worker ants enough to get back and share the bait with the colony. Baiting is the only way to successfully wipe out the ants you see and the thousands you don’t.
