Description
TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Baits Stakes

TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes stop the problem at the source. The stakes target ants outdoors before they make their way into your home. The slow killing poison gives ants the time to transport the bait back to their colony, eliminating all worker ants and the queen. The bait attracts and kills all common household ants.

How to Use
How to Use TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes come pre-filled and ready-to-use. Simply place the stakes in outdoor areas where you see traces of ants, break off the activation tab, and let the bait work its magic. No tools are needed to push the stake in the ground, just your hand. A see-through window enables you to monitor the bait level so you know when it’s time to be replaced. When bait is empty, dispose stakes in the garbage.
Where To Place Bait Stakes

Place TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes near ant colonies or other locations where they are numerous. Apply the stakes near the perimeter of your home, especially near entrances where you think they may be getting inside. The stakes are weatherproof, offering protection in any condition. The more bait placements, the better.

Stake Placement

kill ants

Kill the Ants You See, And the Ones You Don’t When the stakes are first placed in the ground, a large number of ants are going to appear. Don’t worry because this is perfectly normal. The formula was created to allow worker ants to consume the product and survive long enough to transport the bait back to the nest. They will then infect the rest of the colony with the poison, eliminating the worker ants and the queen.

considered selling my house before discovering this product! By SW

This product changed my life. After two decades of ineffective ant control efforts we developed a perimeter defense strategy and argentinean ant infestations are now a thing of the past. The form factor on these stakes is also very helpful for baiting on soil. Only issue I have is that the plastic caps sometimes tear off unevenly, so it's good to keep a pair of pliers on hand when putting out new bait.

Worked Perfectly! By BobK823

First time ever had ants ( tiny tiny sugar ants) in the kitchen of this 40 yr old house. They were coming in thru the tiniest of cracks in the Granite countertops. Within 10-14 days not a trace of any Ant with the Terro liquid bait stations. Worked perfectly as advertised ! I now have Liquid bait stations all around the perimeter of the house. Thank You Terro !!!

Try something else this didn't work By jo

I bought this for some ant hills I had in my yard. This just made the hills get bigger. It did nothing for killing the ants

Response From Terro®
Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

We apologize for this experience? How long was the product applied? This liquid will kill the ants that consume it within 24-48 hours. Depending on the size of the colony, it may take several weeks to notice a decrease in the number of ants.

Five stars! By Sparky

These outside stakes really worked for me! Near my kitchen sink ants had found their way from outside to inside. Every spring there was a battle! I tried everything, including calling my county extension agent, contacting a commercial pest control company and yard maintenance professionals. I will definitely purchase this product again! I purchased and distributed a sufficient number of stakes and placed them along the outside perimeter of my home near the location of the kitchen sink.

Didn't work By Curtis

Didn't help any. After a week the ants had a bed built around a few of them!

Hello Curtis,

We apologize for this experience and are happy to help.

Ant colonies send out scouts for food, even when they have a current food source.  They have been known to actually hide a new food source in order to save it for a later day and prevent other predators from finding it. Covering the bait station indicates they are interested in the food and will return at a later time or they are building a colony right there to be close to the food source.  When they do start to eat this product, they will die within 24-48 hours, sharing the bait within the colony.  Eventually, the queen will eat some as well and the colony will collapse.

Wild life eating bait By cnc

The bait stakes seemed to have worked well, but they are now being pulled out of the ground, chewed open or disappearing all together. I cannot seem to catch the animal doing this but suspect either a chipmunk or raccoon. I don't want to poison wild life, so should I be concerned? I use an animal repellent around the house, but it wears off quickly sometimes. Any other suggestions to keep animals from removing the bait stakes?

Thank you for this feedback.  We apologize for the experience.

The ingredients in this product are sugar, water, and borax. The latter ingredient can be found in many household products such as detergents and some toothpastes for whitening.

Slows 'em down but doesn't stop 'em By Tag

Totally disappointed. I have sugar ants climbing up the outside walls and entering via window sills. Have caulked, sprayed, and used these ant baits. The ants stop for a couple of days, but then come back full force. In all fairness, I've tried other products by Ortho and Bayer, but they only slow down the ant trail. I guess it's time to give up and go with professional pest control.

Response From Terro®
Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Thank you for sharing this experience. The liquid bait is designed to attract sweet eating ants who will gather the bait and return with it to the nest, sharing it with the rest of the colony. Ants that consume the bait will die within 24-48 hours, however, it can take a few days or weeks for an entire colony to be eliminated, depending on its size.

Yeah for Terro By Lem

I haven't used those I just bought yet, that is, I didn't get them put out until today. But last year, they certainly got rid of the ants we had coming in the house. Last year I had tried other products and they didn't work. Then someone recommended Terro. I got some and put them out and in a short time, the ants disappeared in the house.

Q&A
Q.Can I use this next to a koi pond?
A.

Yes.

Q.Will Terro Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes also kill carpenter ants?
A.

While this product is very effective for household ants, it is not recommended for carpenter ants. A better solution would be a granule bait or a contact killer such as the TERRO® Perimeter Ant Bait Plus or the TERRO® Ant Killer Spray.

Q.I put these at the edges of my garden beds. Hopefully as part of a perimeter defense. I have garden beds on 3 sides of my house. Should I remove them every time I water? Let's say that I have never done that before and I've been using them about a week. In an outdoor garden bed, is there enough borax in these little stakes to affect my plants. (I will start removing them from now on, I didn't know that they leaked out during heavy rains until I read your Q&A. Awesome website by the way. Very helpful.
A.

We apologize as we do not have information on how this product will affect plants. It is not recommended for use in areas that are constantly watered as the water could dilute the solution inside the container.

Ants

There are more than 10,000 known species of ants living throughout the world. Like other insects, they have six legs; each with three joints. Ants have large heads with compound eyes, elbowed antennae, and powerful jaws. Ants are social insects that live in structured nest communities throughout the world. The species of ant determines whether they live underground, in mounds built at ground level, in wood structures or in plants or trees.

FAQs

How do I know when to replace the Outdoor Ant Bait Stakes?

The Ant Bait Stakes have a see-thru window that enables you to monitor how much bait is in the stake, so there’s no guesswork involved. When you look through the window you will see that small ‘stairs’ are built into the bait pack. This was designed to increase bait consumption. As the bait is consumed, the liquid level diminishes. The ants march down the steps until they reach the bottom of the pack.

I just placed several TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes around the perimeter of my house and instead of killing the ants, it attracted hundreds more! Am I doing something wrong?

You have nothing to worry about, this initial increase in ants is perfectly normal. As worker ants forage for food and water, they are quickly attracted to the sweet liquid in the TERRO® liquid ant bait and swarm towards it. The ants consume the bait and then head back to their nest to share the liquid with the rest of the colony. On the way back to the nest to share the bait, the ants drop what it called a ‘trail pheromone’, which lets the other ants know where the food supply is. In turn, these ants follow the trail to the bait which explains why you will initially see more ants. The active ingredient in the bait interferes with the ants' digestive systems, eventually killing them within 24-48 hours after consumption. This slow kill is necessary because it gives the worker ants enough time to get back and forth to the colony to share the bait. This slow kill is necessary because it gives the worker ants enough time to get back and forth to the colony to share the bait.

Is there an expiration date on the TERRO® Outdoor Ant Bait Stakes?

There is not an expiration date because the effectiveness of the active ingredient (Borax) does not decrease over time. However, like any food-based product, the bait may become less appealing to foraging ants after an extended shelf life. Our rule of thumb is to use fresh bait if you’ve had the same liquid bait for more than two years.
