Q.Can I use this next to a koi pond?
A.

Yes.

Q.Will Terro Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes also kill carpenter ants?
A.

While this product is very effective for household ants, it is not recommended for carpenter ants. A better solution would be a granule bait or a contact killer such as the TERRO® Perimeter Ant Bait Plus or the TERRO® Ant Killer Spray.

Q.I put these at the edges of my garden beds. Hopefully as part of a perimeter defense. I have garden beds on 3 sides of my house. Should I remove them every time I water? Let's say that I have never done that before and I've been using them about a week. In an outdoor garden bed, is there enough borax in these little stakes to affect my plants. (I will start removing them from now on, I didn't know that they leaked out during heavy rains until I read your Q&A. Awesome website by the way. Very helpful.
A.

We apologize as we do not have information on how this product will affect plants. It is not recommended for use in areas that are constantly watered as the water could dilute the solution inside the container.

Q.Is sodium tetraborate decahydrate harmful to humans? I have placed Terro plant stakes in my window boxes. We have some tomato plants planted in the ground about 5 feet away. Thanks, Andy Klapp
A.

As long as the bait does not touch the tomatoes directly, it can be used in close proximity to the tomato plants.

Q.Is this safe to use by fruit trees?
A.

Because the bait is contained inside the trap, this product can be used wherever ant activity has been noticed.

Q.Is this safe to use on a new lawn that was seed just over a week ago? The ants and anthills all over are stopping the grass from growing in those areas.
A.

This can be used with confidence around new grass seed as the bait will stay inside the stake.

Q.does this product work on fire ants?
A.

While this product is effective for all common household ants, it is not recommended for fire ants.

Q.We saw our first pavement ant of the year inside today. We had a problem with them last year (in the same area) that Outdoor Liquid Stakes fixed quickly. When can I put out the outdoor stakes again? It is January. Night time temps fall below freezing, day time temps touch 50F. Between now and April those numbers could swing in either direction. Is there a freezing issue? Or other temp related concerns?
A.

This product can be used in colder weather. It will not freeze until the temperatures reach negative 13 degrees Fahrenheit.

Q.Is it safe to put one of these bait stakes in the pot that I am growing cilantro? I suspect it will not contact the soil, but want to ensure I'm not taking any risks with subsequent consumption of the cilantro. Thanks!
A.

This product is not labelled for use in a garden area. However, if it is placed in a pot or garden area, we recommend washing any fruits, vegetables, or herbs prior to consumption.
