Trash bins can be a dirty, bug-filled place – but they don’t have to be! TERRO® Garbage Guard® is effective against a variety of flying and crawling insects that are commonly found in trashcans. For your convenience, TERRO® Garbage Guard® is incredibly easy to use. Simply remove the backing from the adhesive strip and attach the pod to the underside of your trash can lid. Then just close the lid, and let the vapor do its work! This product is designed for use in outdoor or garage trash bins and dumpsters only.
Kills Insects and Prevents Infestations
The compact pod features an adhesive strip for easy and discreet attachment inside garbage cans, trash bins and dumpsters. Once inside, TERRO® Garbage Guard® releases an odorless vapor that deeply penetrates the enclosed space to kill visible and hiding insects, as well as prevent new infestations. No more maggots and no more flying or crawling insects in your bins!
Long-Lasting Protection
Garbage Guard® pods are designed with controlled release technology to slowly diffuse the deep penetrating vapor in enclosed spaces for up to 4 months. That’s a whole summer of insect protection with just one application of TERRO® Garbage Guard®!
How to Use Garbage Guard®
TERRO® Garbage Guard® is very easy to use. Just follow these five simple steps to get started.
- Remove pre-assembled Garbage Guard® pod from the sealed bag when ready to use.
- Peel off the adhesive backing of the adhesive strip.
- Attach the strip inside the trashcan or dumpster and keep the lid closed. For superior adhesion, clean the surface before applying.
- One pod will treat up to 100 cubic feet. If more than one pod is needed, space them evenly throughout the treatment area.
- Record the date of installation and replace with a new pod after 4 months or when effectiveness diminishes.

Worked well the first 3 years I used them. I live in the Midwest and always stick them inside a clean, dry garbage can as soon as hot weather is forecast, June or so. This year, in one week maggots were crawling in & out of the stick-on "dispenser". For $15 at ACE I am not happy this season. Vinegar works better but not as convenient.

Cleaned and dried can thoroughly ...

Cleaned and dried can thoroughly before installing the product. All was good for about 5 days, and then it wasn't. We're in the south (coastal GA) and it's very hot and humid. I wish the product worked better for us, but I went to put the can out for tomorrow's pickup and noticed several majors crawling in and on the can.

Hot, humid conditions like those in coastal Georgia can create challenging conditions for insect control, especially with garbage cans with food residue, moisture, and odors could continue to attract insects. Thoroughly cleaning and drying the can before installation is a great first step. For best results, we recommend keeping the can as clean and dry as possible, securing the lid tightly, removing any spilled residue, and replacing the insect control product as directed.
In areas with heavy insect activity, especially during warmer months, additional measures such as rinsing the can regularly and minimizing the time that waste remains in the container can help reduce attraction.

This works if you can get it to stay on your garbage can. The adhesive is horrible. So far I have purchased 12 and everyone has fallen in the garbage. Do better with your product!!!!!

For best results, the TERRO® Garbage Guard® Insect Killer should be applied to a clean, dry surface on the underside of the garbage can lid and pressed firmly into place. Dirt, moisture, extreme heat, or condensation can affect how well the adhesive adheres. If the unit has already fallen off, replacing it with a new one after thoroughly cleaning and drying the application area may help improve performance. I really wanted this to work, and ordered a two pack. I wanted one for my garbage dumpster, and one for my poop trash can for the dogs. The first one I put in my dumpster was gone after the first city trash pick up. The bottom half separated leaving and empty top half stuck to the lid and the bottom half went in the truck. The second one lasted exactly one week later it fell in to the poo pile and I did not notice it was missing until I emptied it. This time the whole thing came unstuck from the galvanized lid.

Love all Terro products that I have tried.
Apparently the only problem with this product is not the ingredients nor effectiveness but the adhesive keeping it in place. Each time it is emptied you have to replace it because it sprang hold. Making it ineffective and expensive. Will have to find a way to make it stay in place.

Have now spent almost $20 on these things. I’ve tried everything except superglue to make it stick to trash can lid. Sometimes the whole thing falls, sometimes tape sticks to lid but the thing falls off the tape. Haven’t gotten it to stay on the lid more than a week.

These work great for our trash bin. The adhesive is not holding up to summer temps in Ohio. Summer is when I need this most. The last one fell off after almost a week. It's been in the high 80's and 90's and isn't letting up. How do I make these stay through a typical Midwest summer?

These worked wonders with our trash can issue. We've had the same fly/larva infestation trouble in our composting worm bin...are these too toxic for similar use? Or would they work without too much damage?

Where can I buy the garbage can fly killer from you? NOT Lowe's, Ace Hardware, Walmart in Medford Oregon these stores SAY they carry your product but since March 2025 your product is Not in their stores! ???

Is rhere a secret to removing the 2nd film off the sticky tape. I can get it off the side with the writing but not the back side.
