TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer

When you have a bug problem, you want to ensure your efforts are as simple and effective as possible. TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer uses borax to kill the ants you see, as well as the ants you don’t see. It works by allowing the forager ants to consume the product and survive long enough to carry the liquid back to the nest and deliver a dose to the rest of the colony. Complete control may take up to two weeks. For your convenience, the packaging conveniently comes apart to allow for easy placement.

Ant Killer

Eliminate Ants
How Does Liquid Ant Killer Work? Since this is a bait, initially you will see more ants – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet liquid. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants in the beginning.

Meanwhile, the active ingredient, borax, is slowly interfering with each ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing them, but leaving enough time for the ants to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that foraging ants can make several trips to the bait, allowing you to get rid of both the ants you see and the ants you don’t.

Where to Place Liquid Ant Killer

Place TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer near ant trails and other locations where they are numerous. Apply the baited cardboard tiles on the edges of sinks, tubs, windowsills, under food cabinets, along floors and baseboards and in corners. The more bait placements, the better! Be sure to leave the ant killer undisturbed while the ants are actively feeding on it.

Where to Place Bait

How to use
How to Use Liquid Ant Killer TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer is very easy to use. Before placing the ant killer, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting them elsewhere. Do not place where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the ant killer.
  1. Tear the "PLACE TERRO® HERE" cardboard tiles from the packaging along the perforated lines. Then, apply drops of the liquid ant killer directly from the bottle onto the smooth side of the tile. you may also substitute with small pieces of paper, cardboard or foil.
  2. Place the ant killer tiles on a flat surface near signs of target pests. Place additional tiles anywhere they may enter your home. Heavily infested areas may require additional placements.
  3. Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait. Add more liquid if it goes dry or simply add more tiles to ensure there's always a fresh supply for the ants. Depending on the size of the ant invasion, complete control may take up to two weeks.

Great product By Mother

It works so well. After putting some drops, the ants piled up in the solution but they were still moving. I wanted to spray the ants my husband said no, let Terro work. By god the next morning they were had all gone everything was clean. It was weird. My conclusion is the the ants that survived came and got there fallen soldiers.

Hate the new traps By Disappointed

The new Terro snap off design ( which does not snap off ) does not work. You have to use a scissors. The opening is too high so the ants do not enter. If you manage to get an ant in the trap, it is not interested. I even put a little of the liquid on the floor which is just ignored. Has the formula changed? I had one of the old scissor type left which is working great.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. The formula of our liquid ant bait has not changed, only the outside packaging. If the ant was not interested in the bait, it may already have a food source or may not be interested in sweet foods at this time. We appreciate the comments regarding the new designe and have shared these concerns with our Product Manager. Don't worry, even though the opening is raised from the level surface, ants are excellent climbers and will still be able to find their way to the bait.

Best ant bait ever used By AJ

I have used several brands of ant bait over the years and nothing has compared to this product. Someone suggested it and I was skeptical at first thinking just another "hope the ants go for it" type of bait, but, after setting up a couple of these bad boys, ants were belly up to the bar to chow down on this stuff. Within 2 days not one ant in sight. Accidentally spilled a little on the counter and it was surrounded in minutes. Extremely surprised and totally satisfied with the results.

Not the same By ktnzoo

Have purchased the liquid ant bait several times over the last few years, it has always worked well for the little odor ants and I have recommended it to neighbors who also were dealing with ants. This past summer I bought a fresh bottle and the contents were very runny, not the familiar thick syrup-like consistency I was accustomed to. I bought another bottle thinking it might have just been a bad batch, and it was also very runny and disappointingly messy to use. I see other folks have mentioned this issue as well. And yet we are expected to believe the product has not changed?

Response From Terro®
Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We have not changed our tried and true formula in well over 20 years! This product contains sugar, water, and borax, so it is expected to be fairly liquidy in consistency. If the product is thicker or drying up, the ants may not be able to consume it.

Less effective and functional By Gf

Been using daily for years. Constantly fighting ants. Formula has changed. Runny and less effective now. Puddle runs like water and makes a mess. Less viscous, accidentally streams out when dispensing now. Takes weeks to work now. Less effective and functional. I’ll feed a hot spot for a month before they finally dissipate. Up to 2 weeks previously.

Response From Terro®
Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Thank you for sharing this feedback. The formula for our Liquid Ant bait has not changed in over 20 years. Based on this description, it sounds like a larger colony or multiple colonies of ants were being attracted to the bait. Please feel free to reach out to us at 1-844-837-7644 for assistance.

Q&A
Q.is terro ant killer harmful to pets
A.
TERRO® Liquid Ant Killer should be placed in areas that your pet cannot access.  The ingredients of this product are water, sugar and borax.  Borax is a naturally occurring mineral found in many common household items such as hand soaps and detergents.  We recommend sharing these ingredients and any safety concerns with your vet.
Q.Will the plastic indoor ant bait work on medium red ants, or tiny fire ants? I put one in our carport and they are eating the bait jell but will it kill them?
A.

Our liquid bait is not recommended for fire ants. Any ants that consume the bait will typically die within 24-48 hours. Our products have not been tested for fire ants.

Q.Once the ants are gone completely, do I continue to put fresh bait?
A.

It is no longer necessary to put out bait if the ants are gone.

Ants

There are more than 10,000 known species of ants living throughout the world. Like other insects, they have six legs; each with three joints. Ants have large heads with compound eyes, elbowed antennae, and powerful jaws. Ants are social insects that live in structured nest communities throughout the world. The species of ant determines whether they live underground, in mounds built at ground level, in wood structures or in plants or trees.

FAQs

Why are ants always invading my kitchen, bathroom and laundry areas?

Ants are attracted to food, water and shelter. Kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms provide at least two of these conditions, making it an ideal haven for ants to congregate.

What’s the difference between liquid and gel ant baits?

It’s a little known fact that adult worker ants cannot digest solid food (bait). Their anatomy is designed for transporting and digesting liquids only. Solid foods must be carried back to the colony for additional processing by the larvae stage. Liquid baits exploit this unique physiology by making it easy for ants to transport the liquid bait back to the rest of the colony, including the queen, larvae and other workers.

I just placed TERRO® Ant Killer in my kitchen and it’s attracting more ants, not killing them! What’s going on?

You have nothing to worry about! Initially, you will see more ants. As ant foragers look for food, they are attracted to the sweet liquid in the bait which they consume and carry back to feed to the rest of the colony. On the way back to the nest, the ants drop what it called a ‘trail pheromone’, letting the other ants know where the tasty food supply is. In turn, these ants follow the trail to the bait which explains why you initially see more ants.

The active ingredient in the bait interferes with the ants' digestive systems, eventually killing the ants within 24-48 hours after consumption. This slow kill gives the worker ants enough to get back and share the bait with the colony. Baiting is the only way to successfully wipe out the ants you see and the thousands you don’t.
