With TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait Stakes, you can stop your ant problem at the source. The bait stakes target ants outdoors before they can come inside. To kill common household ants, place stakes in areas where you've seen ant activity. This will attract foraging ants so they can take the bait back to the nest. As the bait circulates through the colony, it kills the ants you see and the ones you don’t.
How Liquid Ant Bait Works
Since this is a bait product, initially you will see more ants – but this is a good thing. As ants forage for food, they are attracted to the sweet liquid inside the bait stations. After finding the bait, worker ants leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. Meanwhile, the active ingredient is slowly interfering with the ant’s digestive system but leaving enough time for the ant to share the dose with the rest of the nest, ultimately eliminating the entire colony.
Stop Ants at the Source
Place TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait Stakes in outdoor areas close to where ants are entering your home, or where you see ant nests or ant trails. The more bait placements, the better. This allows you to eliminate ant populations outdoors before they can come indoors and infest your home.
Easy to Use
For your convenience, TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait Stakes are easy to use. Simply cut the tab to open the bait station and insert the stake in the ground. Be sure to leave the ant baits undisturbed while the ants are actively feeding on it. When the bait is depleted, discard the stakes. Once ants are controlled, replace the baits every 3 months to keep them from returning.

I cant recommend these stakes, as they have so many issues.
The formula hasn't changed and still works, it just takes a few days to a week or two.
HOWEVER
1) The stakes are thin and flimsy.
2) They're hard to get in the ground.
3) You pretty much have to place them against a wall, foundation, etc.
4) Due to them being thin, you barely tap them with a weed trimmer and you slice them open.
5) The break-off part isn't always the easiest to break off, sometimes you'll waste stakes because you end up crushing them or cracking them in the process of opening them or shoving them in the ground.
6) They dont always break open clean. Other than the cracking risk, you also end up with the chance of it only opening up a tint bit.
7) Wirh the opening being towars the top, it makes it harder for ants to get in and out of them, but also makes it easier for everything else to get in them... such as diet, grass clippings, water (which defeats the purpose if the ants lose track of them due to the water blocking the attracting properties, or the ants drowning in the water while trying to get the bait.
These aren't worth the money anymore. They need to be thicker and sturdier.
I cant recommend this product... I do recommend the style that have the base wirh two stakes and the cup that inserts doen into a channel in the top... but even with them, a trimmer makes mince meat of the cup rather easily. The cup style are also getting much harder to find. Only place I can find them is Amazon, and my last batch of them arrived damage with bait liquid leaking out.
Very disappointed with this product. This ant baits do not attract and kill ants. I bought it in the beginning of June put it out and nothing happened. Ants do not get in to the tube, so I poured it out in different containers so they will have access. Refiled it few times throughout the month and they still alive and well. Would like to have my money back.
As everyone else has said, you have ruined a good product with your redesign! I wish I would have kept some of the old ones and refilled them because these are worthless!
I thought I was getting the old style but these came instead and don’t like them.
They aren’t sturdy and crinkle when you put pressure on them, the hole seems almost on top of the stake and ants go in and drown. I have to smear the liquid on the outside or they’re completely ignored. I had the good fortune to have two of the old stakes so I cut the tops off the new ones and just refill the old ones. They always get emptied out so I think the ants even prefer the old design.
I have to find something else and I have no idea what!
I don't recommend this product
These don't work at all

These don't work at all and they're extremely inconvenient. Every single spring our walkway (brick) becomes riddled with ants. As does our patio. The old type of stakes I could push in easily, and within a few days the ants were clear of the areas. We had no issues with mowing, trimming, or kids/animals running around. They never hit them because they were lower than the grass. These stick out and get stepped on (ouch), broken, hit with the mower, and they get knocked out of the dirt easily. Why on earth would you design something that the ants need to climb and can't be anywhere in the yard? None of the areas I need these for are against walls. I never even see the ants inspect it. They just move along. I tried an indoor bait trap in the grass low and it was covered quickly and I removed it because I didn't want it to spill all over. So it's not the formula, it's the trap. Is it about cost? Because I'd pay an extra $5 just to have the option for the old traps. please terro. Hear the pleas of your customers.
Place the bail stakes outdoors right at the ant trails; even put them on the sideway, so the openings are in the way of the trails. No ants were attracted to the bails. It didn't work at all.

Hi, thank you so much for your question! The composition of the product is 95% water and sugar, and the other 5% is borax. If a pet digests the product, we recommend taking the pet to the vet.

These do not seem to work, bad design…ants do not crawl up the neck and enter thru the snipped slot…what am I missing?
Question by: Shelli on Jun 2, 2025, 3:06 PM
Thank you for your feedback and for bringing this issue to our attention. We apologize for any frustration you’ve experienced. The TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes are designed to be effective, but it seems that there may have been a small step missed during setup.
To ensure the best results, please follow these simple instructions:
Cut the Indented Tab: At the top of the stake, you’ll notice an indented tab. Please cut this tab off before use. This is an important step as it allows the ants to access the liquid bait more easily.
Place the Stakes Upright: Once the tab is cut, insert the stakes upright into the ground with the cut side facing upward. This ensures the ants can crawl up the neck of the stake and access the bait through the snipped slot.
Please be advised this does not work against fire ants or carpenter ants.
