Description

Product Description:

TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Baits attract and kill common household ants.

To use, simply place the pre-filled, ready-to-use liquid bait stations outdoors in areas where ants are observed and, if desired, secure baits with the stakes provided. The patented outdoor ant baits prevent the liquid bait from drying out, providing the ants with a continuous supply of food, day and night. Ants typically follow defined trails from the nest to food or water. Placing the outdoor ant baits close to these trails will improve control.

How Does It Work?

While the active ingredient in TERRO® Outdoor Liquid Ant Baits will ultimately kill the worker ant, it interferes with the ant's digestive system and works slowly enough that the worker has time to get back and share the ant bait with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is needed to allow time for the foraging ants to make several trips to the bait and deliver enough bait to the rest of the colony. Baiting enables you to get rid of both the ants you see and the ants you don’t. Complete control may take up to two weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect solution I live in a mountain area, so ants are a constant presence. I purchased the outdoor ant baits for use inside the house (kitchen, bathroom) and outside and within 2 days, ants stopped swarming in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast, Simple, Effective We have used Terro before (with great success in PA) and just moved to the Keys where ants are everywhereee! We set up two liquid outdoor baits (as well as applying some liquid bait inside) about a week ago and have already seen a drastic decrease in the number of ants coming into and/or surrounding the home! We went from lots of ants every day down to an ant or two every other day. When we've used this product before the ants stopped coming into the house completely for at least 6 months, around then a few (very tiny) ants came back, at which point we reapplied terro and the ants again stopped coming into the house. We continued to be ant free for years after. Knowing how fast, effective and simple this solution is we are looking forward to being ant free in our new home! Thank you Terro! I recommend this product to all my friends/family/coworkers! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Easy to use, I put it out about 4 days ago and most of the ants are gone just a few left, but still have a little liquid left in it. They shipped out right away. This product works great and I will recommend this to friends and family.

    Q&A

I find the liquid bait attracts ants initially, but the product becomes a thick gel very quickly and is no longer is fed on. Any suggestions?

    Asked by: banana
If the bait is becoming thick and gel-like, the ants will not be able to consume it. We would recommend replacing the bait stations if this begins to occur. The bait should be placed in areas where they would not be exposed to extreme heat.

What would you suggest for fire ants?

    Asked by: Sirsteven
Why is the liquid not recommended for controlling fire ants?  I have a thousand of these fire ants in my kitchen.  Day 1 I emptied a small bottle feeding them.  Day 2 they emptied two of the indoor clear plastic traps (from 5pm Day2 - 9am Day 3).  I'm now on Day 3, putting down 2 more clear plastic traps.  They are streaming in from multiple locations.  Will the liquid not kill them or is it just not recommended because the ants can sting and it's a slow kill?  I've used Terro liquid for years, but never on the red fire ants.  They are definitely eating it. Thanks.

I have hundreds of ant mounds (approx 2-5" diam-some lgr) all over my 1/2 ac yd. I believe argentine ants. Can't take a step w/o seeing 5-10 mounds. How many outdoor baits should I use per sq ft? I put 12 out but need to mow. Can I move temporarily?

    Asked by: Casey
Once the bait stations have been placed, they should be left as undisturbed as possible. We do not recommend mowing over the stations. The bait stations can be placed around the home to help prevent ants before they come in. As an alternative to placing the stations in the yard, we recommend our TERRO® Perimeter Ant Bait Plus ( a granular bait), or our TERRO® Ant Killer Plus and TERRO® Ant Dust (both of which are contact killers).

    Will rain affect these?

    Asked by: jojo
The outdoor ant baits are designed with a plastic cover to prevent the elements, such as rain from diluting the liquid bait. We would recommend placing the bait stations in areas that are not prone to flooding.

This product is not recommended for carpenter ants. As an alternative, we would recommend our Perimeter Ant Bait, Ant Killer Plus, or Carpenter Ant & Termite Killer Spray

    All About

    Ants

There are more than 10,000 known species of ants living throughout the world. Like other insects, they have six legs; each with three joints. Ants have large heads with compound eyes, elbowed antennae, and powerful jaws. Ants are social insects that live in structured nest communities throughout the world. The species of ant determines whether they live underground, in mounds built at ground level, in wood structures or in plants or trees.

    FAQs

What’s the difference between liquid and gel ant baits?

It’s a little known fact that adult worker ants cannot digest solid food (bait). Their anatomy is designed for transporting and digesting liquids only. Solid foods must be carried back to the colony for additional processing by the larvae stage. Liquid baits exploit this unique physiology by making it easy for ants to transport the liquid bait back to the rest of the colony, including the queen, larvae and other workers.

I just placed several TERRO Liquid Ant Baits on my deck and it’s attracting more ants, not killing them! What’s going on?

You have nothing to worry about! Initially, you will see more ants. As ant foragers look for food, they are attracted to the sweet liquid in the bait which they consume and carry back to feed to the rest of the colony. On the way back to the nest, the ants drop what it called a ‘trail pheromone’, letting the other ants know where the tasty food supply is. In turn, these ants follow the trail to the bait which explains why you initially see more ants.

The active ingredient in the bait interferes with the ants' digestive systems, eventually killing the ants within 24-48 hours after consumption. This slow kill gives the worker ants enough to get back and share the bait with the colony. Baiting is the only way to successfully wipe out the ants you see and the thousands you don’t.
